Day 1
- Begin your journey with a 195 km drive from Dehradun to Sankri, taking 9-10 hours through scenic mountain roads
- Pass through Mussoorie, the "Queen of the Hills," where you can stop at the famous Kempty Falls located 15 km from the town
- Drive through Uttarkashi district, crossing Naugaon, Purola, Mori, and Netwar with picturesque views of pine forests
- Travel alongside the Tons River, enjoying the valley views and pristine mountain landscapes throughout the journey
- Reach Sankri village at 6,400 ft altitude, the base camp for Har Ki Dun trek, by late evening
- Check into a traditional homestay and experience warm Himalayan hospitality with local cuisine
- Rest well and prepare your trekking gear for the adventure starting the next morning
Day 2
- Start with a 1.5-2 hour drive from Sankri to Gangaad village on a jeepable road that has been developed to facilitate easier access to the trek starting point
- Drive through dense forests of chestnut, walnut, chinars, deodar, and pine trees, crossing small villages like Dhatmeer and Seema along the way
- Begin your 4-5 km trek from Gangaad to Osla village, following the Supin River valley with occasional wooden bridge crossings
- Trek through terraced farms cultivating red Cholai (Amaranth) and kidney beans in wide varieties, which change colors dramatically with every season
- Reach Osla village at 8,500-9,000 ft altitude after 3 hours of easy-moderate trekking, making it the last inhabited village on the route
- Visit the ancient Someshwar Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva, featuring intricate wooden carvings and fine craftsmanship showcasing traditional architecture
- Explore the rare Duryodhana temple with wooden chambers believed to be over 5,000 years old, and interact with the kind-hearted Siyali people who follow Someshwar Mahadev traditions
Day 3
- Begin your 7-8 km ascent from Osla village in the morning, initially climbing the steepest section of the entire trek which takes 30-40 minutes to cover
- Trek through millet and kidney bean fields on a sloping spur, passing a temple located some distance below the trail towards the right
- Walk through bushes adorned with orchids, fleece flowers, and sunflowers while the Supin River flows far below in the valley
- Stop at a colorful dhaba along the trail for refreshments and tea before continuing the gradual ascent into higher altitudes
- Discover a hidden waterfall offering a perfect rest stop, photo opportunity, and a chance to refill water bottles with fresh mountain water
- Reach Kalkatiyadhar at 10,032 ft after 5-6 hours of trekking, where you're greeted by a vast meadow with rolling greenery surrounded by layers of towering mountains
- Set up camp at this expansive meadow campsite with dramatic views of the Swargarohini massif, Bandarpunch, Kalanaag peaks, and the valley below, experiencing your first night under the Himalayan stars
Day 4
- Start early for the most exciting 10.5 km trek day, ascending from 9,977 ft to the Har Ki Dun summit at 11,600 ft before descending to Boslo
- Trek through gentle ascents on flat paths flanked by distinctive Bhojpatra (birch) trees with characteristic peeling white bark found above 10,000 feet
- Pass a magnificent waterfall and traverse through lush alpine meadows dotted with vibrant flowers in summer or transformed into snow-covered wonderland in winter
- Enter the cradle-shaped Har Ki Dun valley carved by the Thamsa River (also called Har Ki Dun Gad), with the valley floor spreading out in stunning beauty
- Reach the Har Ki Dun summit at 11,600 ft and enjoy breathtaking 360-degree views of Swargarohini I Peak (6,252m), Hata Peak (5,838m), Black Peak, and Jaundhar Glacier located towards the south-east
- Explore the rich flora and fauna of Govind Wildlife Sanctuary, including rare Bramhakamal flowers, with chances to spot Himalayan Monal, snow leopard, Himalayan black bear, and musk deer
- Descend to Boslo campsite at 10,760 ft on rugged stone-strewn terrain, enjoying panoramic views of Hatta peaks and the valley while watching for the colorful Himalayan Monal perched on tree tops
Day 5
- Wake up early to capture the spectacular sunrise over Swargarohini peaks from Boslo campsite, with the morning light painting the mountains golden
- Begin your 5.1 km descent from 10,502 ft to Devsu Thatch at 9,878 ft, following a path lined with cedar and pine trees along the mountain ridge
- Navigate carefully through stone and rock-cut narrow paths that are rugged on the knees, taking regular pit stops to rest and prevent strain
- Walk in a zigzag pattern during descents to minimize knee impact and maintain proper trekking posture throughout the 5-hour journey
- Pass through sections of the Govind Wildlife Sanctuary forest rich with blue pine, silver fir, yew, spruce, oaks, walnut, maple, rhododendron, and horse chestnut trees
- Arrive at Devsu Thatch, a beautiful alpine meadow campsite offering majestic views of Bugyal Devsu and the towering Mt. Black Peak
- Set up camp and enjoy views of the Ruinsara Range and Kedarkantha Summit visible towards your left, perfect for evening photography and stargazing
Day 6
- Begin your 7-8 km return trek with mixed terrain of descents and gentle ascents, starting from 9,878 ft elevation in the morning
- Trek downhill through familiar cedar and pine-lined ridges, enjoying the changing perspective of landscapes you climbed earlier in the trek
- Reach Osla village and take time to explore the village more thoroughly, visiting the Someshwar Devta temple if missed on Day 2
- Observe the daily lifestyle of Osla villagers as they work in terraced farms, tend livestock, and maintain their traditional stone houses with slate roofs
- Continue trekking to Gangaad village after descending to 7,709 ft and climbing back to 8,265 ft over 5-6 hours of moderate walking
- Board a jeep at Gangaad for the 1.5-2 hour scenic drive back to Sankri through dense forests along the Supin River valley
- Check into a comfortable homestay in Sankri and enjoy hot meals, warm hospitality, and a well-deserved rest after days of high-altitude camping
Day 7
- Pack up early and begin your 195 km return drive from Sankri to Dehradun, retracing the spectacular mountain route through the Garhwal Himalayas
- Drive through Netwar, Damta, Kotgaon, Purola, and Naugaon, with the road following the Yamuna River valley downstream
- Take refreshment breaks at roadside dhabas along the way to stretch, grab hot chai, snacks, and use restroom facilities
- Pass through Mussoorie again with optional stops for lunch, tea, shopping for souvenirs, or visiting local attractions if time permits
- Enjoy the dramatic change in landscapes as you descend from high mountains through pine forests to the foothills near Dehradun
- Arrive in Dehradun by evening after 9-10 hours of scenic mountain driving, with the journey concluding by late evening
- Connect to onward transportation to Delhi, Haridwar, Rishikesh, or other destinations, or spend the night in Dehradun to rest before traveling
